Focus of Representation

Shawn’s primary focus is representing plaintiffs, particularly individuals who have been injured through negligence or mistreatment, or who have had valid claims denied by their insurance companies. He is committed to fighting for fair compensation in the areas of:

• Personal Injury Litigation: Representing individuals injured in construction accidents, car accidents, premises liability incidents, and more. Shawn advocates for clients who have been injured due to the negligence of others, ensuring they are compensated for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other damages.
• Insurance Disputes: Fighting against unfair practices by insurance companies, Shawn works diligently to secure justice for clients whose claims have been denied, delayed, or undervalued. He has successfully represented numerous clients in bad faith insurance claims and has recovered compensation for those wrongfully denied coverage.
• Construction Law: While Shawn’s background in construction law spans both defense and plaintiff work, his current focus is advocating for injured workers and individuals who have suffered property damage due to construction defects or accidents. Notable Recent Cases

• Court of Appeals Case: Ranbir S. Randhawa v. Amick Storm Management, LLC, No. 01-23-00757-CV, 2023 Tex. App. LEXIS 7117 (Tex. App.—Houston [1st Dist.] Aug. 22, 2023, no pet.). Shawn is proud to have his name on a significant Court of Appeals case involving a novel constitutional lien issue. The case examines the validity of a constitutional lien under Texas law and is a key matter in understanding how these liens affect parties in construction and storm management contracts. The appeal challenged the trial court’s ruling that granted the appellee’s motion under Texas Rule of Civil Procedure 91a. This case adds to Shawn’s growing body of legal work in the construction law and property dispute sectors.
• AAA Arbitration: Represented a fulfillment center in a complex, multi-faceted business dispute against a non-paying business customer in a one-week long AAA arbitration before a three-arbitrator panel. The arbitration involved thousands of transactions and centered around allegations of breach of contract, fraud, and Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act (DTPA) claims. After a thorough and highly contested hearing, Shawn and his team prevailed, securing a favorable outcome for their client. The case involved a number of affirmative defenses from both sides and was a pivotal moment in Shawn’s experience handling large-scale business disputes in arbitration.
• Denton County: Personal Injury Case (Car Wreck): Represented an injured party in a Denton County car accident case where State Farm refused to pay the policy limit. Despite the insurer’s denial, Shawn took the case to trial. After a jury trial, the verdict exceeded the policy limit, and State Farm was forced to pay the additional damages awarded in excess of the policy limit. This victory is an important highlight of Shawn’s work fighting against insurance companies that refuse to honor their policyholder’s claims.
• Dallas County: Successfully represented the family of a worker killed in a construction accident, securing a favorable settlement that provided financial support to the family during their difficult time.
• Tarrant County: Obtained a significant settlement for a client injured on a construction site, where unsafe worksite conditions led to serious injuries. The case was resolved after extensive litigation, ensuring the client received the compensation needed for recovery.
• Dallas County: Represented an individual injured in a premises liability case, negotiating a favorable settlement for the client following proof of negligence by the property owner.
• Collin County: Successfully fought for a property owner in a wrongful lien dispute, resulting in the lien’s removal and a full recovery of attorney’s fees and costs.

Previous Professional Experience

Before entering law, Shawn spent more than a decade in the construction industry, which has provided him with unique insight into the legal challenges surrounding construction projects. As a project manager for a general contractor and assistant for a commercial HVAC and plumbing contractor, he was responsible for managing key project aspects, including budgeting, scheduling, contract preparation, procurement, safety, quality control, and more. This hands-on experience enhances Shawn’s ability to represent clients in construction-related legal matters effectively.

Shawn has worked with renowned clients, such as Texas Tech University, UT Southwestern, Parkland Hospital, and other prominent institutions, providing him with invaluable knowledge of the construction industry and its legal intricacies.

Personal

Shawn was born in South Texas, raised in West Texas, and now calls North Texas home. He is fluent in both English and Farsi and is working toward proficiency in Spanish. Shawn is married and a proud father of two wonderful daughters, with whom he loves to spend his time. Outside of work, Shawn is passionate about Judo, wrestling, and skiing, holding a black belt in Judo. He also enjoys playing soccer, gardening during the spring and summer months, and grilling. As an avid poker player, Shawn spends his downtime enjoying a game with friends and family. He is a dedicated fan of college football, the NFL, and the NBA. While he remains a loyal Dallas Cowboys supporter, he also enjoys cheering for the San Antonio Spurs, in addition to the Dallas Mavericks.
