A deadly crash suspected to involve alcohol is under active investigation by Grand Prairie authorities after a violent collision took place early Sunday morning on Interstate 30.
Shortly after 5 a.m. on March 23, a Dodge truck towing a utility trailer pulled onto the emergency shoulder near MacArthur Boulevard. The driver had reportedly stopped to adjust the trailer’s towing straps. While parked on the shoulder, the trailer was struck from behind by a Nissan passenger vehicle.
According to the Grand Prairie Police Department, the driver of the Nissan is suspected of being intoxicated at the time of the crash. Investigators stated that this individual is expected to face a charge of intoxication manslaughter once medical treatment has been completed. Police have not yet released the driver’s identity.
The passenger riding in the Nissan did not survive the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene. She has been identified as 22-year-old Eva Marie Chaverria. The Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office will handle formal notification procedures with her family.
The Nissan’s driver was injured in the crash and transported to a hospital for care. Authorities have confirmed that the driver is expected to recover.
The person driving the Dodge truck was not injured during the incident. Their name has not been released at this time.
The investigation remains ongoing, and law enforcement has not yet provided further details.
