Deadly Crash on I-35W in Denton Leaves One Dead, Several Injured

A serious multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 35W in Denton left one person dead and at least six others injured Tuesday afternoon, according to local police.

The collision, which involved an RV and four other vehicles, occurred just before 4:00 p.m. in the northbound lanes of I-35W. The incident prompted authorities to shut down the northbound side of the highway, forcing all traffic to exit at FM 2449 and Vintage Boulevard.

Emergency responders transported seven individuals to nearby hospitals for treatment. One of those individuals was pronounced dead upon arrival. The condition of the other six injured parties has not been disclosed.

Aerial footage captured by SKY 4 showed a dramatic scene: one vehicle appeared to be lifted onto the RV and pinned against a concrete barrier. The extensive damage led to hours of cleanup and investigation at the site.

By 10:15 p.m., the northbound lanes were reopened to traffic after the roadway had been cleared.

As of now, authorities have not released the names or ages of those involved, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Commentary

News of the multi-vehicle crash on I-35W in Denton is heartbreaking. One person lost their life, and several others were hospitalized with injuries. Crashes like this don’t just affect the people in the vehicles—they impact entire families, workplaces, and communities. In the aftermath, those left behind are often searching for answers while facing one of the most difficult moments of their lives.

When a collision involves five vehicles, including an RV, it is rarely a simple incident. Crashes of this scale are often the result of multiple contributing factors—vehicle size and weight, traffic conditions, speed, and even the design or condition of the road. Larger vehicles like RVs can be more difficult to control, specifically in heavy traffic or unexpected situations.

Highways like I-35W often have construction zones, shifting lanes, and high traffic volume, all of which can increase the risk of a serious collision. These factors need to be considered in any investigation. So does the emergency response—how quickly medical help arrived, whether the scene was safely managed, and whether victims received timely care.

Physical evidence also contributes to our understanding of how a crash occurs. The position of the vehicles, any available video footage, onboard data from the vehicles involved, and the damage patterns can all help piece together a timeline. This information can fade quickly if not preserved, which is why timely investigation is so important.

For families who have lost a loved one or are trying to support someone recovering from serious injuries, the days and weeks after a crash are filled with uncertainty. On top of grief and medical concerns, there are often complex legal and insurance issues that feel overwhelming to face alone.

In situations like this, consulting with a wrongful death attorney can make a meaningful difference. A legal team can help ensure that evidence is preserved, key questions are addressed, and the family’s rights are protected from the start. While no one can undo the pain of a tragic loss, having the right support can help families move forward with clarity and a stronger sense of justice.
